As I was driving towards Knoxville on Sunday, I found myself in a worshipful mood. I began listening to a myriad of different songs but two songs in specific took me to a place that I needed to be that morning. The first song was “Great I Am” by New Life Worship; a song that begins with the line, “I want to be close, close to Your side, so Heaven is real, and death is a lie,” but it was the chorus that caught me. The chorus of the song sings,

“Hallelujah Holy, Holy \God almighty, Great I Am \Who is worthy? \None beside thee \God almighty, the Great I Am”

And then the second song that came on immediately following this one was in the same vein. It was Revelation Song by Kari Jobe. And again, the chorus sings out,

“Holy, Holy, Holy \Is the Lord, God almighty \Who was and is and is to come. \With all creation I sing, praise to the King of Kings. \You are my everything, \And I will adore you.”

Immediately, I find myself whisked to the Throne Room of God (I promise I am not only ever going to write about rooms.) Both artists wrote their songs based on scripture from Revelation 4. This is a vision that is given to John of the Throne Room of God, this is a vision that is fairly similar to the one Isaiah receives in Isaiah 6. We find two creatures (called Seraphim) with six wings who day and night call out, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!” in Isaiah 6, the same creatures call out “Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord of hosts the whole earth is full of his glory!” These creatures daily call out to God in worship of Him.

Far too often I find myself leaving the throne room and feeling good about myself for having worshiped my God. I feel like I have done such a service to Him, that I met Him with the amount of worship He deserves. I do this failing to understand just how worthy he is. None beside Him is worthy of my worship. I often fail to see him as “my everything” yet I may call it out in a song. However, though my failures in worshiping Him may be great, his grace and mercy are greater. Thankfully, our God calls us to worship Him from the places we are. He understands and sympathizes with our inadequacies and just calls us to strive to do more and be better. He calls us to trust in Him to make us better worshipers of Him.
